emulsion transfer

During class we learnt about a technique called emulation transfers. This technique involved pressing the image from a copy onto brown paper without any tools. We started by usin brown paper and create a thick layer or emulation paint over the top (the same length of the image)
We then placed the image facing down onto the wet pair and became pressing. After pressing we waited until the paint was dry and collected a bowl of water. We used out finger tips after being dipped in water to rub at the paper. This water wore away the paper and left behind the image which had been transferred onto the emulation paint. We were eventually left with an image on brown paper.
I have myself two attempts but didn't find the images came out clear enough to see  sharp enough. I decided the images looked almost like someone trying to escape and liked the outcome. If I was to do it again I would use a different image and maybe try and work more with the wet finger tips and see what's different. Below are my attempts, the first A3 the second A2.

Chemigrams

Chemigram

What is a Chemigram?

Chemigrams were invented in the 1950s by Belgian artist Pierre Cordier. Chemigrams are an experimental art where a photographic image is made by painting on a light-sensitive paper. In most if not all cases of my chemigrams, I have used photographic paper for the images.

Here I have scanned in the images I created in the dark room with certain foods.
I used a wide range of food items ranging from hairspray to mayonnaise. All the different foods created a different effect on the photographic paper so all of them came out different to each other. I placed the items on the paper and create the image.

The images haven't come out too sharp and therefore I didn't feel like the outcome was as good as hoped.

Here is the result:

Lost Identity

Here I have played around with some effects in Photoshop and created a few images with some images I had already had. I used effects such as blending tools and contrast.

I chose these images and edited in this way as I felt it created an unknown identity as the person in the images is almost unidentifiable. I used a stark contrast in colour in one image as it shows another side of the person people may have not seen. I also used the same image and repeated it in the eye area to show multiple eyes at once.
I played around the effects and felt confident the more I used them. Here are the images:

-EXPERIMENTAL-

We were given the brief of experimental photography and I feel very creative when thinking about this brief. I want to provide some account of my work so will be adding to my blog often. I want to explore not only digital way to edit my pictures, but I want to physically edit my images and hopefully recreate something I never thought I could. Using both old and new image techniques hopefully I can create a numerous amount of experimental images created by myself.  In this project I wish to not only advance my skills in photography by working with a variety of materials bu also research and discover different types of ways of to create images. I will research methods and materials in order for me to achieve the desired images. Experimental  photography to me is using materials not expected in order to create almost abstract and original images. Hopefully in this project I can achieve what I want by taking inspirations I find and like.

Edited shots from market

From looking over my images I wanted to edit some to increase the quality and detail in each image by using Photoshop. I used the contrasting and brightness tool to increase some detail. I also altered some of the mid-tones to ensure I had a balanced image.
Some of the black and white images I changed the contrasting elements to ensure it had more depth and emotion.

The black and white effect on this image almost acts as a barrier as the woman looks mysterious. It looks as if the woman is lost and is passing time by looking through the clothing. None of the image specifically stands out as it all is on the same level.

The shot above I edited in black and white as I feel it added depth and emotion. It gives the image a sinister feeling and creates a more interesting image. The way the models are staring towards the man who isn't aware creates an evil and almost obedient emotion as the model looks like it has power over the man. The way the sky and inside the shop contrasts against the model and the mans skin tone.

The following images are edited but in colour. I feel like the contrasting and bright colours is the main focus in some of the images.

DSLR town market

Taking a trip into town I found a small marketing in which people where selling trinkets and food. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to take some pictures. I used my DSLR Nikon and used my 18-55mm lens to ensure I had a wide view and fitted more people in my shots. Here are some of the images:

I used this lens as it opened the area up and ensure more items/people got into the frame. The lighting wasn't the easiest to shoot in so I used the automatic setting on my camera and interchanged between manual and automatic focus setting.
