Photographer #6- Recipes: Photo Series by Nora Luther & Pavel Becker -FALLING-

Recipes: Photo Series by Nora Luther & Pavel Becker

German art director Nora Luther and photographer Pavel Becker worked in collaboration to create this impressive series of images showcasing recipe ingredients floating in mid-air.
“The raw ingredients rest in weightlessnes. They are properly proportioned falling into the vessel where they are further processed.
The image serves a foretaste not only of the dish but also of its preparation. The look of the ready cooked dish is left to your own imagination.”

These images are really effective as not only do they show people what inside the food they eat and maybe make them consider it, but it looks like art and reminds people of what good food is. I want to try and recreate a similar idea to this but with individual items such as fruit and veg to see what effect that has.

My Images- Physically Falling -FALLING-

Physically Falling

Keeping in mind that photography does not always have to look conventional, I kept in mind that these images look quite abstract. I used a camera from college and focused on the idea of a person physically falling. These images although have not been edited I believe really look appealing.
these images include my teacher jumping on the spot. They show the build up to a jump and allow the camera to track the movement. There is something that looks very appealing in an image of the growth of a jump.

The first few image show the jump:

These images look at the jump in a more abstract way. I increased the IOS on these images to play around and show the experimentation.

Bodies of Thought: Photo Series by Kristin Smith

“Bodies of Thought” is a two-part series of photographs by Kristin Smith, exploring the concept of “an intelligent body, where the body’s thoughts are realized through movement”.

I love how these images look and really liking the concept of the bodies moving in such little light. I love the colours and how they are subtle yet are the brightest things in the images. Really want to play around with shutter speed and a background like this and see what the results are.

Photographer #4- Claire Droppert - FALLING-

http://theinspirationgrid.com/sand-creatures-photos-by-claire-droppert/

To continue with my theme of frozen in time, the concept of falling. I have looked in depth at freezing objects in time. I like the way the images look and feel it shows skills and technique to create. In order to take inspiration from this, I might try freezing time by taking images of objects in the air. This will create the illusion of something submerged in time. I took inspiration from a photographer named Claire Droppert. She has a collection of images named "Sand Creatures". In the collection she states:
“Sand comes alive and creatures are born in frozen moments of weightlessness…”
– Claire Droppert

This is a way to capture an image of something that we cannot stop naturally. I really like how the photographer has captured something that people don't really see that often and yet it still looks quite silent and pleasant.

My Images/ experimentation falling -FALLING-

Experimentation Falling.

These images are some that I created as I was experimenting with the camera. I have not changed any setting besides the shutter speed to ensure I capture a lot of light. I have no edited the images as I feel they a) do not need it and b) look better as they are. Due to them being experimental pieces I don't think the quality matters as much as me practicing with the camera.

The way the light is dragged reminds me of light drawings in which a slow shutter speed is used to get the same desired effect.

Photographer #3 - Maria Kazvan -FALLING-

http://www.ignant.de/2014/06/23/sensual-photography-by-maria-kazvan/

From a quick search I have found a photographer who looks as the comparison with nature and vulnerability of the naked body. By doing a simple search on google.com and looking around a little I found:  Maria Kazvan

"the young photographer is based in the Ukraine where she’s capturing beautiful shots of her friends with a dreamy and sensual quality. We especially enjoy her bold outdoor shots that create a beautiful contrast between rough and untouched landscapes to the naked, vulnerable bodies"

I like the idea behind these image and in some way they have a dreamy sleepy like feeling. Although contrasting two things, the images flow naturally and nothing looks misplaced. In
my images a contrast between two things may be something I want to explore and see whether they match or are complete contrasts. The framing of the images is also really nice as it explores lines, shapes and simple rules of photography to add to the minimalism shots.

Photographer #2- Shinichi Maruyama -FALLING-

One of my first ideas was the concept of falling through dancing. I know there is a dance studio in college and therefore may think about exploring this in more depth. This means I may have to get in touch with some dance students to explore this. I was inspired by an image I found on Pinterest by a photographer named: Shinichi Maruyama.

Although I am not familiar with his other work and have only seen a few images, this one image really inspired me.
Japanese photographer Shinichi Maruyama has an interesting series of photos simply titled, “Nude.” Each image shows an abstract flesh-colored shape that’s created by a nude subject dancing in front of the camera. Although the photographs look like long-exposure shots, they’re actually composite images created by combining ten thousand individual photographs of each dancer. The result is a look in which each model’s body is (mostly) lost within the blur of its movement.:

I love the way the image shows the curves of the models body and how the series of images is called 'nude' it almost acts as a way to expose the human body without feeling exposed. The way the image is edited and compiled together shows how the model whether or not feels worried about posing for the images, yet the images look so beautiful and confident.

After exploring the photographer a little more, some other of his images also follow a similar concept of the movement being frozen in time. This image specifically :  The detail is amazing and I love the way the image is set up. The way time is frozen and now printed to last forever is a really nice concept I am enjoying researching.

Photographer #1- Ekaterina Anokhina -FALLING-

Ekaterina Anokhina From the series '25 Weeks of Winter'

Imprints of grass tendrils on bare skin; a tattoo of a long, hot day spent with a loved one. Ekaterina Anokhina's work creates a powerful poem about arguably the worst disease palpable: lovesickness.

This is a series of images I found whilst looking closer into falling, in this case falling in love. This is another interest of mine and feel this may be the route I continue with further.
I really like the images from Ekaterina Anokhina as although they are quite simple and speak for themselves, they are very universal and can be relatable for a large audience. The idea of love being a 'disease' allows audience members to relate and see the simplicity of love and yet the larger more in depth version of love as well.

I love these images and like the way they are so simple yet speak lots. I want to keep in mind these images and explore love in depth in relation to age and love.

A-Level Exam- Falling

After researching all the possibilities in my exam and thinking through all my options I have decided to follow the stimuli: FALLING.

I chose this as I feel it will open up doors and allow me to explore all routes. In doing so hopefully I will achieve a wide ranged project exploring the stimuli. I have create multiple mind maps to explore all my ideas.
This mind map is not the only original ideas I have had. I have explored some ideas through my Pinterest account.

https://uk.pinterest.com/Alevelcharlotte/

This Pinterest I use daily to add inspiration to my boards which I look at regularly to gain not only my inspiration but also knowledge about certain artists and photographers who I may use as research.

This board as you can see, I used last year for my AS too and I felt it has come in handy. My board for my A-Level exam is very helpful and already quite full:

This alongside with my favourite websites such as lensculture will inspire my to delve into FALLING even deeper.
