FINAL PROJECT

I received the information pack today and got to look at the project words/stimuli. I looked through the list words and chose woodland:

Woodland.

After looking into all the words/stimuli I researched each one and created a small mind map on each word. This meant I could look into all the possible ideas and the possible projects I could do. I was interested in Woodland at the start as that is the line of photography I really enjoy. I looked at the different types of woodland and looked into the more in depth side of nature. I also really liked this project stimuli as I feel it has lots of different routes. I feel like I have a wider range of projects using the word woodland as it is something that is stationary and will not disappear therefore I can always take images that will not move.

One of the first ideas I had and one that sprung to mind first was the use of woodland and deforestation. This is a huge topic and I feel the images I would like to create would not be possible in my short time space. I also looked into photographers who have shot controversial projects such as this and could not find many, meaning I would find it hard to find inspiration.
I then looked into using woodland to show the scary side of the woods and how naturally we fear the woods. After talking with my class and listening to their ideas, I decided it was too similar and wouldn't like to produce a similar project.

My last and one the ideas I would like to develop is the use of woodland and nature in terms of death and passing away. I am really interested in how naturally when someone passes, flowers are one of the ways to mourn them. I feel inclined to research this further and find out why. I also love the idea of something living being presented as a gift of them passing. The fact a flower has a start and an end really build up emotion. I feel the project I want to create will be very effective as not only is death such a gripping topic, but the way people send and give flowers shows how both are linked. The way flowers are such a happy gift in day to day life I also find interesting as it is used when someone passes away.

Another way I want to explore this is through Graveyards. This is linking with woodland as the graves that I have come across before, all are inclined with nature and more often than not surrounded by nature. I want to show the beauty of the flowers and surrounding nature through any images I take.

When my project is finished I hope to have produced something that makes my audience/viewer feel in touch with their emotions and really think deep about this topic. I feel this topic holds lots of emotion and depth in which I want to respectfully explore. I feel it will let the audience look at something so obvious when someone dies (give flowers).
